Since giving birth, I’ve been doing everything in my power to avoid the dreaded hair loss that often comes with postpartum. By using haircare products, serums + oils, taking supplements and more, I’ve achieved healthy, strong hair with minimal shedding. Keep reading for my favorite healthy hair hacks!
First things first, find a good hair serum. I like to apply a serum with a shampoo brush, and often mix in an oil like Rosemary or Castor Oil to add moisture and encourage further growth. You can use serums and oils as little or as often as you’d like! Personally, I aim for once a week at least and try to leave the mixture in for at least an hour.
Hair growth supplements and continuing on a prenatal vitamin – even now, almost 15 months into postpartum – has helped to level out hormone changes that typically cause postpartum hair loss.
Once I used these methods and had my hair looking stronger and healthier, I decided to minimize unnecessary heat and damage. I try my best to opt for heatless curls, air dry instead of blow dry and avoid hot tools. I’ve also ditched my previous super bright blonde look and have opted for a more natural, darker root. This has been a game changer is preventing damage, breakage and dryness.
See below for a comprehensive list of healthy hair growth products + tips I’ve loved:
- Hair Growth Serum
- Castor Oil
- This oil is thick! You can mix with a less-thick oil like rosemary or coconut for easier application
- Rosemary Oil
- Wet Brush
- Love this to prevent pulling out tangled hair during brushing – we need to keep every strand possible!
- Detangling Spray
- Leave In Conditioner
- Split End Repair Serum
- Deep Conditioning Hair Mask
- Heat Protectant Spray
- For the rare instance when I do use hot styling tools or a blow dryer, I always apply a heat protectant spray
- Nutrafol Postpartum Supplement
- Prenatal Vitamins
- I took these long before, and am taking them long after getting pregnant and giving birth
- Scalp Massage Brush
- This is great to apply hair oils, hair masks, scalp masks or just to stimulate blood flow to the scalp to encourage growth
